Oktoberfest at Market by Jean-Georges

As I mentioned in my "In the News" section last week, Market by Jean-Georges at the Shangri-La is presenting Oktoberfest from now until Sunday, October 7. My review of the dinner option is located below the details of the offer:

LUNCH: Monday to Friday 11:30am – 2:30pm. 

$29 per person
3 Course Prix Fixe Oktoberfest Menu 

Saturday & Sunday 11:30am – 2:30pm

$39 per person: 3 Course Prix Fixe Oktoberfest Menu and a 0.5L Ayinger Beer served in a Stone Mug

DINNER: Daily, with 2 seatings 

5:30pm – 7:30pm: 1st seating 
8pm – 11pm: 2nd seating 
$49 per person: 3 Course Prix Fixe menu and a 0.5L Ayinger Beer served in a Stone Mug

On the menu: Traditional Oktoberfest favourites like Leberwurst, Weisswurst, Pork Hock, along with Sauerkraut, Spatzle, Potato Salad & everyone's favourite pretzels!

As part of our Prix Fixe, we got a mug of the Brau-Weisse Ayinger Beer brought in from Bavaria especially for this event. Though I'm not a huge beer fan, I did have a sip from the stone cup just to try. Our waiter was nice enough to serve me a small glass of wine instead.  
To add to the atmosphere, they had musicians on hand to entertain us with live music and even livelier singing and dancing. Pretzel For our starter, we had a Fresh Pretzel, just lightly salted. Though a little plain on its own, the texture was soft and had a nice chew to it. 
Honey Mustard, Grainy Mustard and Fruit Despite the great texture, it was a touch bland, but as the accompaniments for the pretzel, we were served a Fruit "chutney" (which was more of a blend of mixed dried fruits), a grainy mustard and a honey mustard. The mustards were good but I can't be help feel that the chutney was out of place. Black Forest charcuterie, Buffalo Pepperoni, Shinkenspeck, Landjager For our first course, there was a choice of salad or charcuterie. Three guesses as to what we all picked. There were three types on the plate, on the left is the Schinkenspeck, very similar to prosciutto. We also had the Landjager, which is a combination of beef and pork with lard, sugar, red wine and spices. And on the right is the Buffalo Pepperoni. Black Forest Sauerkraut, Herb Spatzle, Smoked Pork Hock, Oktoberfest Sausage Both entree options came with Black Forest Sauerkraut, mixed with Smoked Pork Hock, some Herb Spatzle and an Weisswurst Sausage, the white sausage. Mine came with one more sausage, the leberwurst, which reminded me of the European Sausages you get at Costco. Black Forest Sauerkraut, Herb Spatzle, Smoked Pork Hock, Turkey Schnitzel If you chose the other entree option, the leberwurst was replaced by a slice of Tukey Schnitzel. This had a great crunch and was moist throughout, something that's hard to do with turkey. German Chocolate Brownie, Cinnamon Ice Cream by gracecheung604, on Though not much of a dessert fan, I really enjoyed, this German Chocolate Brownie. The cinnamon ice cream was a nice touch, but I definitely enjoyed the brownie the most, especially with the toasted pecan topping. The Maple Vanilla ice cream went well with the Brownie too!
In my opinion, dinner here is not only about the food, it's about the entertainment and really getting into the spirit of it all. The servers are dressed up, and you're encouraged to dress up too, for a chance to win some prizes. It's a fun night out and a great way to enjoy a night out on the patio as fall comes down upon us.
