Flatbread, Sliders and Salad at Glow

Glow - Fresh Grill and Wine Bar on Urbanspoon
First lunch in Toronto. Headed to Glow at Shops on Don Mills for a bite. I’d been there twice before, but options in that area is a little scarce. Either overpriced Thai food at Linda, or the teenager-packed Jack Astors or the Vancouver-based Joey’s. So as you can appreciate, not really a tough choice.
Glow is endorsed by Rose Reisman, the same woman you find on the inside of Pickle Barrel menus…are we at an upscale PB? Let’s find out! Ordered a glass of Tempranillo wine and my friend ordered a glass of Blanche de Chambly. It came with a slice of orange…like the lime with a Corona.
Ordered a bunch of stuff to share…since I didn’t really want a gigantic or heavy meal.
Started off with a Steak and Mushroom flatbread, with arugula strewn throughout. It was nice and meaty, with the steak done right at a medium rare and the mushroom chopped in large enough chunks so that you knew what you were eating! Loved it…and it stayed hot while we noshed on it.
Next up were the Trio of Sliders…now, all the burgers here are served bunless, and the sliders are no exception! First one up was the Turkey burger with some cranberries and a citrus glaze, their take on the Thanksgiving dinner. The middle one is the only Beef and Potato burger…Good thing it didn’t have a bun, because a potato in a bun is just wrong. The last one is the Mediterranean lamb burger – the best one of the lot. Served on a bed of hummus and topped with a crumble of feta cheese.
We also got the Warm Mushroom Salad. Topped with a generous sprinkle of parmesan. We ate this last because it was cold to begin with, so no point in letting the other food get cold right? The last few bites of this was really hard to eat, because the dressing settled on the bottom, but perhaps this was our fault for waiting until the end to eat it. Maybe we should have tossed it beforehand…who knows?
All in all, good service and good food. If this is an upscale Pickle Barrel, I give it a thumbs up!
